In an exploration full of contradictions, 21-year-old Dania tries to find herself. She grew up in a Christian community in the bible belt of the Faroe Islands, but increasingly questions her faith and herself. Who is she really, with or without God - with or without any judgement? Inspired by her new friend Trygvi, a hip-hop artist, she begins to write more personal texts, which grow into a collection of critical poems: Skál (meaning ‘cheers’). The collection of poems and the film itself are both about the double life that young people lead in a conservative Christian world. Directors Cecilie Debell and Maria Tórgarð form a masterful duo for this documentary, which shows you the beauty and loneliness of the Danish islands. Where Tórgarð pours her feeling and background into it (she herself is from the Faroe Islands), Debell adds an outsider's perspective and her creative knowledge. They won the New Nordic Voice award at Nordisk Panorama in Sweden this year.
