Omschrijving
An intriguing documentary by Finnish director Anna Antsalo about three beachcombers who search for treasures on shorelines. All three of them have different motivations. Rob lives in Cornwall. He can’t leave any piece of rubbish on the beach if he has touched it. He collects all the things he retrieves in a sea container. Cleaning beaches is his obsession and he sees himself als a civic scientist. Yolanda is a Dutch archaeologist. She studies the erosion of objects to understand the impact that time itself leaves. The Japanese artist and beachcomber Shige is afraid of the sea. He believes that the shoreline is the boundary between life and death. Through the objects found on the tideline, the documentary creates a portrait of mankind. The sea preserves what we leave behind and spits it out in the future. It shows a message from bygone times.
At the screenings in Slieker, this film will be introduced by Jojanneke Drijver of the Waddenvereniging. The Waddenvereniging recently started the project Ik Jut op Terschelling. This introduction will be in Dutch.
