Together with her father, mother and sister, filmmaker Froukje van Wengerden grew up in the Frisian village Bartlehiem. When she returns to her birthplace in the far north, she goes to live next to her parents on one side and her demented grandmother on the other. Not long after, she discovers that she is pregnant with a girl. From that moment on she decides to start filming. Van Wengerden's personal documentary Bartlehiem is a poetic film about a place where seasons follow each other in slow succession while different generations of people and animals live side by side in the countryside.
